This week, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle invested in vegan startup Clevr Brands, marking the first time Markle has invested in any company. Co-founded in 2017 by CEO Hannah Mendoza, Clevr makes oat milk-based mixes in Matcha, Chai, Coffee, and Golden flavors that feature health-promoting ingredients, probiotics, and adaptogens and can be turned into lattes in an instant with the addition of water. Markle signed on as an investor after tasting one of the brand’s vegan lattes and learning about the woman-owned business—which donates a portion of its proceeds to support food security and racial justice.

“This investment is in support of a passionate female entrepreneur who prioritizes building community alongside her business,” Markle told Fortune. “I’m proud to invest in Hannah’s commitment to sourcing ethical ingredients and creating a product that I personally love and [that] has a holistic approach to wellness. I believe in her, and I believe in her company.”

Oprah’s holiday gift
After declaring their financial independence from the royal family, Markle, her husband Prince Harry and their child Archie moved to Montecito, CA, which is where media mogul Oprah Winfrey resides. This weekend, Winfrey took to Instagram to share a gift basket she received from her neighbor filled with Clevr’s’ lattes. “On the first day of Christmas my neighbor ‘M’ sent to me…a basket of deliciousness,” Winfrey posted alongside a video of her preparing a latte. “My new drink of choice for the morning and night.” Winfrey added that she wished she knew about the vegan brand sooner as she would have added it to her annual “Favorite Things” recommendation list.
