Ice cream chain Baskin-Robbins just added a spicy Mangonada to its menu nationwide … and it’s totally vegan. Flavor innovators at Baskin-Robbins worked for two years to create the Mangonada—a tribute to the iconic Mexican beverage, sometimes called a “chamango”—which is made with spicy Mexican fruit condiment chamoy and a thick mango purée. The Mangonada is finished with a dusting of Tajín Clásico Seasoning, a signature Mexican spice blend that features a combination of chili peppers, lime, and sea salt.

“As a brand rooted in flavor innovation, our team is constantly looking for ways to bring bold, exciting new flavors to our guests,” Shannon Blakely, Vice President of Marketing and Culinary at Baskin-Robbins, said. “We are excited to share the Mangonada with all of our guests and honor the culture of many of the communities we serve.”

The Mangonada is available in three sizes and is available at all Baskin-Robbins stores and through delivery apps. To promote the new vegan beverage, Baskin-Robbins is giving customers who order the Mangonada through DoorDash between April 12 and April 18 a $5 discount of their order of $15 or more.

Vegan at Baskin-Robbins

In August 2019, Baskin-Robbins launched its first non-sorbet vegan ice cream flavors—Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Extreme—made with a base of coconut oil and almond butter. Since then, the ice cream chain has experimented with limited-edition vegan flavors, including Coffee Caramel Chunk (which featured an espresso-flavored base dotted with chocolate chunks and caramel ribbons) that Baskin-Robbins launched for the month of November in 2019. Currently, the chain offers the vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream flavor on its permanent menu.

Along with the Mangonada, Baskin-Robbins announced a new non-dairy flavor of the month for April: Watermelon Swirl Sorbet, which is made with a sweet watermelon sorbet combined with a tart raspberry swirl.
