275th City in Spain Vote to Ban Animal Circuses

The Spanish town of Mogán has become the latest town in the country to take a stand for animals after all political parties approved a motion to declare itself a “city free of animal circuses” was adopted unanimously last week. The declaration makes it the sixth city in its region to adopt such a pledge and the 275th in all of Spain. Mógan joins Barcelona, Cordoba, Malaga, and Catalonia (which has also banned bullfighting) in its refusal of cruel animal captivity and entertainment. InfoCircos, an animal protection group focused on educating society of the ills of wild and endangered animals in circus acts, expressed gratitude to the conservative party that brought forth the initiative. “[We] want to convey our thanks to the Popular Party of Mogán for this initiative, and as always, we’re especially happy that it gone ahead with the unanimous support of all political groups. Thank you Mogán!” The development comes on the heels other major cities and states adopting similar bans in just the past year, including Warsaw, Hawaii, and The Netherlands.
