Actress Taraji P. Henson revealed that a health scare led her to adopt a plant-based diet. In the current issue of InStyle magazine, Henson explained that she was experiencing stomach pains during the filming of her upcoming movie The Best of Enemies. “It took a doctor in Macon, Georgia to say, ‘If you don’t change what you’re doing, you’re going to get stomach cancer.’ I said, ‘Say no more,’” Henson said about her dietary shift. “So I switched everything up out of necessity. I want to live. Thank God because I feel so much better.” The 48-year-old Empire star will marry former NFL player Kelvin Hayden in July and looks forward to cooking vegan food for her family. Henson—who stars in the new film What Men Want—recently founded the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, an organization that aims to eliminate the stigma around African-Americans seeking mental health services.
