Adidas Builds Soccer Field From 1.8 Million Recycled Plastic Bottles in Miami

Multinational sportswear manufacturer Adidas recently created a sustainable football field using 1.8 million plastic bottles—thereby recycling approximately 40,000 pounds of plastic waste. The field at Edison High School in Miami, FL used bottles sourced from beaches, coastal communities, shorelines, and remote islands, all with the goal of preventing it from polluting the ocean. The plastic was washed and treated before being turned into pellets for the field, which help with traction and cushioning during sports games. “We believe that through sport we have the power to change lives, and this field is a demonstration of our taking action on that belief,” Cameron Collins, North America Director of Football at Adidas, said. “More than a place for these young athletes to play, it’s a reminder of our collective responsibility to end plastic waste.”
