Animal Cruelty in Kennels Made a Felony in OH

Ohio has taken a stand against animal abuse and neglect by passing a statute known as Nitro’s Law, which classifies animal-cruelty in kennels as a felony. According to the Humane Society of the United States, the law is named after a dog who was discovered starved and dehydrated in an Ohio kennel along with 18 others, The perpetrator who subjected the animals to the cruel living conditions was only prosecuted on misdemeanor charges, but now with Nitro’s Law, the punishment will be more severe. “Nitro’s Law would bring the state more in line with the vast majority of states in the country by holding those who intentionally and maliciously abuse animals accountable for their actions,” says the HSUS Ohio state director Karen Minton.
