Applebee’s at Center of Petition Calling for Vegan Options

One of the most popular American eateries has virtually no options for plant-based eaters, but one animal-rights group is working to change that.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has launched a new campaign that aims to expand vegan options at popular chain restaurant Applebee’s. The casual dining eatery with more than 2,000 locations is known for its chicken, shrimp, steak, and rib dishes, while offering only fries, pickles, chips, and guacamole as dedicated plant-based options. PETA points to recent veg menu developments at similar chains such as Red Robin, Denny’s, White Castle, and Johnny Rockets, but says that “unfortunately, Applebee’s hasn’t caught on yet, leaving those seeking healthy, exciting, plant-based meals with little more than a pared-down side salad and fries to ‘choose’ from.” Those wanting to send a message are urged to sign a petition calling for the restaurant “join the countless other forward-thinking companies with plant-based offerings.”
