People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals deemed Austin, TX America’s most vegan-friendly city, beating out Portland, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. To recognize Austin’s cruelty-free proclivities, outspoken vegetarian and former Beatle Paul McCartney presented city officials with an award at the Frank Erwin Center. He credits Austin’s vegan success to its academic exuberance and progressive outlook. “The influx of forward-thinking musicians and techies, the thriving university, and the food trucks all over the city run by young veg-friendly hipsters have made Austin the absolute cutting-edge place for green eating,” says McCartney, as quoted by starpulse.com.
