Balfours Bakery—Australia’s oldest baking company—is celebrating its 165th anniversary with the launch of new vegan options. The new line will feature vegan versions of Balfours’ classic offerings, including plant-based hand pies, pasties, and sausage rolls made with fillings such as lentils, mushrooms, and leeks in lieu of meat. “Balfours Bakery is adored for its square pie, footy pie, and giant sausage roll, but as consumers’ expectations and tastes change, we need to also,” Balfours Chief Marketing Officer Erik de Roos said. “We’re seeing people wanting to experiment with different flavors and tastes. So, from that perspective, there will be a lot of people who love a meat pie who will also try a vegan pie.” The new vegan line will be available starting mid-July in Southern Australian retailers before expanding to other regions.
