Yesterday, San Francisco’s famed vegan eatery, Millennium Restaurant, announced that it will be closing its doors this April. Opened in 1994, the restaurant has received worldwide attention and media accolades for its gourmet vegan cuisine and is credited with elevating plant-based food to levels never before seen. Owned by Ann and Larry Wheat and Executive Chef Eric Tucker (who has been at the kitchen’s helm since the beginning), the hotel in which the restaurant is located has been sold—and the new buyers will not be renewing the lease. In 2014, VegNews named Millennium its “Restaurant of the Year”, and just last week it was awarded the #1 Vegetarian Restaurant in the World by The Daily Meal. Tucker and General Manager, Alison Bagby, plan on opening a new vegan restaurant later this year.
