Food company Barilla—the world’s largest producer of pasta—recently removed eggs from its Protein+ line to make it suitable for vegan customers. The new line includes spaghetti, angel hair, thin spaghetti, farfalle, penne, elbows, and rotini made with lentils, chickpeas, and peas and without animal products. “We are always monitoring trends and looking to offer products that fit our consumers’ needs, and in this case, we focused on those that lead a completely plant-based lifestyle, but want more protein,” Jean-Pierre Comte, president of Barilla’s Americas division, said. “The Protein+ reformulation is a perfect example of our commitment to innovation and our dedication to providing pasta products that are made from simple, healthy ingredients.” The new line contains the same amount of protein (10 grams per serving) as it did in its previous formulation and is now available at retailers nationwide.
