British television broadcaster BBC is launching its first vegan cooking show on subsidiary network BBC Wales in January with plans to go nationwide in the spring. The Dirty Vegan will be a four-part series hosted by vegan endurance athlete Matthew Pritchard, star of the MTV stunt show Dirty Sanchez and his own YouTube cooking series. Pritchard went vegan two years ago and credits much of his athletic success to his dietary shift. On the show, Pritchard is challenged to create vegan meals for groups of people with specific nutritional needs, such as a female sports team, mountain rescuers, and senior citizens. He cooks two or three recipes per episode and examines the science behind ingredients such as egg replacers. “If someone had told me 20 years ago I would have a vegan cookery show, I would have laughed all the way to my grave,” Pritchard told media outlet The Sun. “But life takes you in strange directions.” Pritchard will also debut the Dirty Vegan companion cookbook on December 27.
