Beauty brand LUSH Cosmetics will shut down its operations on September 20 and September 27 in support of #FridaysForFuture, an initiative founded by 16-year-old climate activist and vegan Greta Thunburg that calls upon individuals to take action against the climate crisis. On those dates, LUSH will close its 250 retail shops, e-commerce operations, headquarters, and manufacturing facilities to allow its more than 5,000 employees to participate in the climate protest. “As a business with deep roots in environmental activism, giving our thousands of staff the time to get out there and demand bold action is a no brainer,” Mark Wolverton, President and CEO of LUSH North America, said. “We all share this planet, so we need to band together to sound the alarm and show our politicians that ‘business as usual’ is no longer an option. The climate crisis won’t wait, and neither will we.” In addition to shutting down operations, LUSH will elevate youth voices in its displays during the “Week for Future” initiative and continue to engage in its eco-friendly practices, which include package-free products, sourcing ingredients from regenerative farms, and using solar power to offset retail energy consumption. Before the shutdown, LUSH will launch a spooky (all-vegan) collection of Halloween-themed bath bombs, soaps, bubble bars, and scrubs, available in-stores and online starting Friday, September 13.
