Beloved Author Opens Second Restaurant in Brooklyn
Vegan chef Isa Chandra Moskowitz opens a second location of Modern Love.

Vegan restaurant Modern Love opened its doors in Brooklyn, NY this week. Owner and famed cookbook author Isa Chandra Moskowitz debuted the first location of Modern Love in meat-centric Omaha, NE in 2014, where she won locals over with her take on “swanky comfort food.” While Modern Love Brooklyn features a similar menu, Moskowitz—who originally hails from Brooklyn—told Food and Wine Magazine that she intends to “play around more with what Brooklynites are used to eating.” The new spot serves playful dishes such as Mushroom Blintzes, Seitan Chops and Applesauce, and Omaha menu-import Mac & Shews—Moskowitz’ gluten-free take on mac and cheese, which boasts a creamy cashew sauce, pecan-cornmeal crusted tofu, BBQ cauliflower, sautéed kale, and spiced pecans. Furthermore, the menu offers six desserts—including cheesecakes, pies, and a decadent sundae—and will soon serve beer and cocktails. Modern Love is the newest addition to a bustling vegan scene in New York, which has steadfastly been continuing to expand. This is due in part to restaurateur Ravi DeRossi’s vow to veganize all 15 of his holdings starting with Bourgeois Pig (now operating as vegan tapas bar Ladybird) and Mother of Pearl (which switched to an all-vegan Polynesian menu on Valentine’s Day).
