Vegan restaurant Twisted Plants recently opened a brick-and-mortar location just outside of Milwaukee, WI. Husband-and-wife owners Brandon and Arielle Hawthorne launched the restaurant after realizing the lack of plant-based options in the area. “With the start of our food truck [earlier this year], we knew there was a need for more plant-based/vegan fare readily available for the community,” the Hawthornes told VegNews. “Along with the opportunity to create everyday comfort foods that are more friendly for the environment, we hope to inspire curious minds that a plant-based lifestyle is not far-fetched.”
Because the Hawthornes are “cannabis enthusiasts,” they decided to give Twisted Plants’ menu a twist by naming the eatery’s burgers after stoner films, such as Next Friday (two vegan patties, American cheese slices, lettuce, onions, tomato, ketchup, mustard, and mayo); Superbad (vegan patty, jalapeños, cheese, grilled onions, chipotle mayo); and Pineapple Express (vegan patty, grilled pineapple, American cheese, chipotle mayo, grilled onions, sweet sauce, lettuce, and tomato). The menu also features cauliflower wings, loaded waffle fries, tater tots, and ice cream.
Twisted Plants is currently offering curbside pickup and its dining space is expected to open as soon as it is deemed safe. In the future, the Hawthornes hope to offer healthy options such as salads and wraps, and eventually open a second location.
