This weekend’s annual burger festival Burgerpalooza in Sydney (which is expected to be attended by more than 10,000 visitors) will welcome its first vegan vendor. Soul Burger—which serves burgers made with vegan versions of fried chicken, battered fish, and pulled pork—will debut its custom-made “Benny Blanco” at the festival. “We’re there to shock 5,000 festival goers and convince them that plant-based burgers are the future,” Soul Burger posted on Facebook. “We encourage y’all to come along and convince vendors to debut more plant-based options.” Food festival organizers around the world are recognizing the missed opportunity of not offering vegan options, including this year’s National Fried Chicken Festival which welcomed its first vegan vendor, Atlas Monroe, over the weekend.
