On Friday, California State Senate Majority Leader Dan Florez introduced a bill that would place felony animal abusers in California on a public online registry. The bill, which will be the first of its kind if passed, would require individuals convicted of felony animal mistreatment to provide personal information, including the nature of their offenses and current photographs, to local law enforcement. This information would then be compiled and posted on the internet. Proponents say the registry would not only be an efficient way to track animal abusers as they move jurisdictions, but could also serve as an early warning system for people with a predilection toward violent crimes.
