California-based diner Mel’s Drive-In recently added the option to veganize its milkshakes with ice cream brand Coconut Bliss at all of its Southern California locations. Guests can order a Thick Old-Fashioned Milkshake in chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla flavors with the option to add Oreo cookies, fresh banana, pineapple, butterscotch, or coffee, or make it malt (thick, creamy, and rich) for an additional charge. The diner also offers a Vegan Chocolate Chip Milkshake made with Coconut Bliss vanilla ice cream and vegan chocolate chips blended together. This is the first time Mel’s Diner has had a vegan ice cream option. “In the past couple of months, Coconut Bliss has had the opportunity to break into the restaurant industry through partnerships with prominent fast-casual restaurant brands,” Darcey Howard, Director of Marketing at Coconut Bliss, told VegNews, “and we have been so pleased with the success and reception of our products as restaurant menu items.” Earlier this year, Coconut Bliss partnered with burger chain Burgerville to offer vegan ice cream-based Bliss Shakes in flavors such as Mint & Oreo and Triple Berry at locations throughout Oregon and Washington.
