Vegan chef Reina Montenegro—owner of San Francisco-based Filipino vegan restaurants Nick’s on Mission and Nick’s on Grand—has launched virtual vegan cooking classes through video conference service Zoom. Each Tuesday at 5pm, Montenegro will teach online viewers how to veganize dishes such as vegetable lumpia, vegetable adobo, chana masala, tostadas, and potstickers. The interactive classes will focus on making use of the ingredients people already have in their pantries. “I was doing in-person cooking classes before this pandemic broke,” Montenegro told VegNews. “So I think everyone from all over the world can benefit from these classes. I will talk about how easy it is to veganize recipes and how to look at ingredients at the store to make sure they are vegan.” Those who are interested in joining can email info@nicksonmission.com to get the Zoom link. Montenegro started her career as a personal chef and caterer five years earlier and in 2017, she and her partner Kenny Annis transformed their restaurant Nick’s Kitchen in Daly City to an all-vegan eatery. Since then, they opened two additional vegan restaurants: Nick’s on Grand in 2018 and Nick’s on Mission in 2019.
