The Zero Mercury Working Group and the Biodiversity Research Institute recently released three reports saying that the high mercury rates found in seafood can severely disrupt brain growth and decrease brainpower. Executive director of BRI David Evers says that the higher traces of mercury found in the fish, the more toxic the fish is when consumed. Michael Bender, co-coordinator at ZMWG, added that the studies’ findings should serve as encouragement to not only decrease the mercury pollution, but also raise awareness about the dangers of seafood consumption. In addition to the mercury findings in seafood, onegreenplanet.org reports that levels of numerous toxic metals can be found in fish.
