British retailer Asos debuted a vegan beauty line today created in partnership with 133-year-old company Crayola. While original crayons are made with stearic acid—an ingredient derived from beef tallow—the new Crayola beauty x Asos line features 58 animal-free products in 95 crayon-inspired shades. The line feature products (which retail from $15 to $40) such as brightly colored brushes made with synthetic fibers, color-changing lipsticks, highlighters, multi-colored mascaras, and eyeshadow palettes. Many items in the line are designed to evoke Crayola crayon packaging, including “Face Crayons” that are packaged in the brand’s iconic green and yellow boxes in sets of three. Last year, designer Lisa Frank (of ‘90s notebook fame) lent her art to beauty brand Glamour Dolls Makeup to create a vegan beauty line.
