Dairy Queen Launches Vegan Ice Cream Bar

Non-dairy Dilly Bars—a vegan take on the classic dessert that features chocolate-enrobed coconut milk ice cream—are coming to select locations.

Ice cream chain Dairy Queen will soon launch a vegan Dilly Bar at select locations. The new option is a non-dairy take on the classic and features coconut milk-based ice cream enrobed in vegan chocolate. Currently, two stores in Louisianna (5732 Johnston St. Lafayette, LA, and 78 Westbank Expressway, Gretna, LA) have the bars in stock while participating locations in Houston, TX; Bloomington, MN; Las Vegas NV; and New York, NY expect to offer them soon. Customers are encouraged to call their local Dairy Queen to request that it carries the non-dairy Dilly Bar. 

Instagrammers have already spotted the new treat on the menu—with a “coming soon” label—at a Las Vegas, NV Dairy Queen location and Dairy Queen in Alliance, NE has touted the non-dairy bars on its Facebook page

The menu update comes after years of campaigning for a vegan option by animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). “After years of offering treats made with cruelly obtained cow’s milk, Dairy Queen is finally embracing a delicious dairy-free dessert,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA thanks the company for adding this vegan option and looks forward to seeing it hit the spot with kind customers”
