Danone Credits Plant-Based Brands for Profit Growth

The international food company’s acquisition of plant-based brands Silk, So Delicious, and Vega proves successful as these products have “delivered strong sales growth.”

Multinational food corporation Danone recently released its earnings report for the first quarter of 2018 which showed a large increase in profits. The company credited its plant-based brands as a major component of its more than $7.2 billion in sales this quarter. “Plant-based foods and beverages again delivered strong sales growth,” the report stated, “driven by the ongoing rebound in nut-based beverages, successful media and marketing campaigns, and premium innovations.” In 2016, Danone acquired WhiteWave Foods—parent company of plant-based brands such as Silk, So Delicious, Vega, and Alpro—for $12.5 billion, forming new conglomerate DanonWave, and has consistently reported increased growth driven by its plant-based holdings.
