On December 30, Terry Mason, MD, chief medical officer of Cook County Health and Hospitals System that includes Chicago and its surrounding area, made an appearance on a local Fox News broadcast with an important message—switching to a veg diet could save your health. Mason recommended viewers a New Year’s resolution of going meat-free for 30 days as a means of lowering cholesterol, losing weight, and improving their overall health. “Our diets are meat-centric,” Mason tells Fox correspondents and viewers. “We think of every meal that we eat with the meat first … What I want to do is flip the script. Make the sides the entrée, and either reduce or eliminate the meat for 30 days.”
