Enjoy Vegetarian restaurant—located in San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborhood—will host an 11-course vegan dinner on February 17 in honor of the San Francisco Vegetarian Society’s 50th anniversary and to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The meal costs $30 per person and will include vegan versions of traditional Chinese dishes such as steamed dumplings, eggplant with plant-based sea bass, braised vegan spare ribs with daikon, and a vegan take on shark-fin soup. In recent years, the soup—traditionally made with fins that are cut from live sharks that are thrown back into the ocean—has lost its appeal in mainland China, and last year, major airline Air China banned the transport of shark fins aboard its aircrafts to further deter cruelty against sharks.
