A couple of weeks of ago animal rights activist Melissa Karpel was given a John Deere lawn-cutting tractor on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Karpel, who is a vegan and works for the spay- and neutering-advocacy program the Fixit Foundation, owns a 45-acre plot in Michigan where she plans to grow organic vegetables. Prior to the show starting, the Ellen staff asked the audience if anyone was a farmer, and Karpel was the only one to raise her hand. After Ellen made her entrance on stage by riding the green and yellow tractor, she called Karpel out of the audience and presented it to her. This is not the first time Karpel has been featured on network television. She and her family hosted a carnivorous hunter from North Carolina in their vegan Los Angeles home for an episode of the reality TV show 30 Days.
