Grammy-nominated singer LaTocha knows a thing or two about plant-based food. She has been vegan for nearly two decades and has even penned her own plant-based cookbook. And now, she’s adding another project to her plant-based résumé: a brand-new show on BuzzFeed’s popular Tasty YouTube channel.

Combining vegan food with celebrity interviews, the aptly titled Is It Vegan? With LaTocha aims to spotlight not just delicious recipes (of which there will be plenty), but also the work of pioneering young creatives and entertainers in social media.

Guests including actor Dallas Dupree Young (from hit shows like The Fosters and Cobra Kai), musician and chef Conner Caine, dancer and choreographer Enola Bedard, and actor and fitness entrepreneur Sam Asghari will join LaTocha to taste vegan food and participate in fun and “unexpected” games, Richard Allen Reid, president of BuzzFeed Studios, told VegNews.

He added that viewers can expect “incredible food and authentic conversations in a way that feels fresh, entertaining, and distinctly Tasty.”

BuzzFeed’s ‘Tasty’ puts vegan food in the spotlight

BuzzFeed launched Tasty more than a decade ago, and since then, it has become a go-to source for recipe inspiration, viral celebrity videos (like Tasty Snack Swaps), cooking hacks, and fun challenges (like Lost in Translation, where recipe creators have to make a dish from instructions that have been translated multiple times).

Tasty has always been about more than recipes. It’s about the conversations and cultural moments that happen around food,” added Reid. “LaTocha was the perfect partner to lead this series because she makes vegan food feel approachable, exciting, and fun for audiences around the world.”

LaTocha has been vegan since 2008. According to the singer, she first ditched animal products for health reasons after leaving the popular 1990s R&B group Xscape, but the change ultimately gave her a whole new outlook on life.

In 2020, after years of perfecting her own recipes, she self-published her cookbook, LaTocha’s Planted Lifestyle. For LaTocha, the new YouTube show, which she also co-executive produced, is a continuation of her plant-based advocacy.

“People always ask me what I miss the most since I’ve gone vegan, and the truth is … nothing!” said LaTocha. “I’ve taken over the Tasty kitchen to prove it—and I brought some of the most interesting people I know to help me answer the question: Is It Vegan?”

Intrigued? The first episode of Is it Vegan? With LaTocha premieres on Tasty’s YouTube channel on September 17.
