A bill introduced into the US House of Representatives is calling for the prohibition of factory-fish farming in US ocean waters. Introduced by Rep. Don Young of Alaska, HR 574 would ban commercial fishing in the US’ Exclusive Economic Zone, an area of more than 4.3 million square miles of ocean and 90,000 miles of coastline, covering both continental coasts, as well as the coastlines of Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, and other American territories in the Pacific. The bill, introduced in February, is currently in a subcommittee in the House; to get your representative involved, fill out Food and Water Watch’s form and take action.
