St. Petersburg, FL-based vegan baker Natalia Lima of the Curious Cat Bakery recently challenged herself to make vegan versions of the desserts from each episode of Season 10 of Netflix reality baking show The Great British Bake Off. Each week, Lima chooses one of the recipes and recreates a vegan version of it, such as cinnamon rolls for the bread challenge week and a chocolate orange custard cake for the 1920s challenge week. Lima then films herself creating the recipes and posts the video and step-by-step instructions on how to make the dessert in her Instagram stories. “I’ve been a fan of the show for years and I knew I wasn’t the only one who was excited for the new season, so I thought it’d be fun for me to bake along—with the added challenge that everything I baked had to be vegan,” Lima told VegNews. “So far I’ve learned that indeed anything can be veganized with some effort, research, and stubborn will. It takes some adapting, of course, but the essence of the challenges are preserved.” Lima said the response to her vegan challenge has been so well received by her followers and wholesalers that she plans to release an e-book at the end of the show’s season that will include the veganized recipes—which she plans to sell on Amazon and on her website. The baked goods are also available for purchase on her website until the end of the challenge.
