US military swaps out vegetarian MREs with fully vegan meals

The US military is about to serve millions more vegan meals. Starting in 2027, fully plant-based MREs (meals ready to eat) will replace the current vegetarian options. The move follows a campaign by Mercy For Animals, which worked with more than 25 military volunteers to advocate for the change.

“This is an incredible victory that will potentially spare thousands of animals from suffering and cruelty on factory farms, and ensure that compassionate choices are integrated into one of the world’s largest institutions,” the organization said.
