United Kingdom heavyweight boxer and two-time world champion David Haye made a triumphant return to the ring this month, defeating Mark de Mori with a first-round knockout January 16 at London’s O2 Arena. Haye, widely regarded as one of the best boxers of his generation, scored the big comeback win after a three-and-a-half year absence from the boxing circuit due to a major shoulder injury that nearly forced him to retire in 2013. The televised match lasted only 131 seconds and attracted three million viewers. Haye went vegan in 2014 after witnessing the truths behind factory farming. “I watched a TV documentary about how animals are farmed, killed, and prepared for us to eat,” he told The Independent. “I saw all those cows and pigs and realized I couldn’t be a part of it any more. It was horrible. I did some research to make sure I could still obtain enough protein to fight and, once satisfied that I could, I stopped. I’ll never go back.”
