Elmhurst 1925, a 90-year-old dairy company that switched to “milking nuts” in 2017, has just debuted the world’s first hemp milk-based creamer. This is the company’s first hemp-based product and promises to deliver a creamy coffee or tea experience that does not curdle. Flavors include Original, Vanilla, Hazelnut, and Golden Milk. A barista hemp-milk beverage will also be exclusively available to cafés. “Hemp is the next big thing,” Elmhurst Marketing Director Heba Mahmoud told VegNews during trade show Natural Products Expo West. After ditching dairy, Elmhurst has grown into a competitive brand in the non-dairy market, creating a wide range of plant-based milk products made from peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews, oats, and almonds. Within these options, Elmhurst also offers flavored varieties, protein drinks, and a barista series. Per the company’s core values, all of these products are made with six ingredients or less—with the new creamers containing between four to five ingredients, depending on the flavor. Mahmoud said customers can expect these creamers in stores within the next three to four months and to keep an eye out for additional hemp and oat-based beverages.
