Meal delivery brand Daily Harvest is installing vending machines to introduce the public to its new line of Scoops vegan ice cream. The vending machines offer passersby free ice cream pints and, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, are set up outside (where masks are required) for self-serve to encourage social distancing. Daily Harvest set up the first machine in Newport, RI and the next location—which was determined by a poll on Instagram—will be Domino Park in Brooklyn, NY from August 21 to August 23. Daily Harvest’s vending machines will also play original jingle “Scoops” performed by iconic ‘90s boy band Boyz II Men. The meal delivery brand is also promoting its new ice cream line and vending machines through chalk art, airplane banners, and sand sculptures.
Daily Harvest CEO Rachel Drori founded the company in 2015 with the mission of bringing customers healthy and convenient plant-based meals that require little preparation. The company now offers a variety of smoothies, bowls, soups, and flatbreads that are stored in the freezer and prepared with a one-step process, either blending, soaking, or heating. In May, Daily Harvest launched its Scoops line with four flavors: Vanilla + Salted, Swirled Black Sesame; Strawberry + Rich, Rippled Berry Compote; Chocolate + Ooey, Gooey Midnight Fudge; and Mint + Dark, Melty Cacao Chips—the latter two of which are available in the vending machines.
The new ice cream line is also available as a dessert option (starting at $8.99 per pint) in Daily Harvest’s flexible subscription plans which allow customers to craft personalized boxes of 9, 12, or 24 items that are delivered either weekly or monthly.
