World-famous chef Gordon Ramsay surprised his social media fans this week with a cryptic message about veganism. “Going to give this #vegan thing a try,” Ramsay tweeted alongside a photograph of what appears to be a vegan-friendly pizza. “Yes guys you heard that right.” The chef initially deleted the post before re-tweeting it, attracting comments from supporters and naysayers alike. Ramsay has publicly mocked vegans for more than one decade, once stating that he would electrocute his children if they adopted a meat-free diet. In a 2016 Twitter thread, Ramsay was asked if he had any allergies. His one-word response was “vegans.” In February, Ramsay tweeted that he was a member of “PETA: people eating tasty animals.” People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) responded to Ramsay’s latest tweet with, “Finally, we knew this day would come.” The chef opened his newest restaurant venture, Gordon Ramsay Street Pizza, in London this week and the Charred Aubergine pizza—which features charred eggplant, toasted pine nuts, tomato, and garlic pesto—specifically notes that it is cheese-free.
