Ivy Leagues Order More Veg Food Than Other Schools

According to a recent report compiled by food delivery service Grubhub, students at Ivy League schools substantially order more vegetarian and vegan meals than students at other schools nationwide. Grubhub ranked schools based on its meatless delivery orders to find that Yale students ordered 130 percent more than average, with Harvard at 86 percent, and Wesleyan at 79 percent more. Others that grace Grubhub’s top 20 list include Brandeis University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and George Washington University. Grubhub spokesperson Kaitlyn Carl explained that the ordering pattern is consistent with a nationwide phenomenon the company has experienced this year. “We’ve seen orders for vegan and vegetarian dishes grow in popularity (for orders outside of just college students) this year alone by 19 percent,” Carl said. Compared to other age groups, veganism is growing among college-age students and millennials at the fastest rate, and many credit social media platforms, particularly Instagram, for the increase.
