The hosts of The View were treated to vegan cake last week courtesy of comedian Jon Stewart and his vegan wife Tracey. The Stewarts sent a variety of vegan cakes provided by Pennsylvania-based bakery Vegan Treats to prove to co-host Sunny Hostin that vegan baked goods are tasty. The surprise delivery was sparked by a recent show that featured actor Craig Robinson—known for his role as Darryl Philbin on The Office—who told Hostin he was in search of a good vegan cake for his upcoming birthday. “I just said, ‘Vegan birthday cakes probably don’t taste good,’” Hostin recounted, before admitting that she was wrong. “I mean, has anybody had a kale cake that’s delicious? No! So, I guess Jon Stewart and his wife heard about this and sent us a bunch of vegan cakes that apparently are tasty.” The cakes were a big hit with the rest of the co-hosts, with Whoopi Goldberg stating that there are “all kinds of vegan bakeries in Chelsea. They’re all over [New York City].” The Stewarts are animal-rights activists and own the newest branch of rescue organization Farm Sanctuary in New Jersey.
