Food giant The Kellogg Company unveiled vegan jerky line Leaf Jerky at this year’s trade show Natural Products Expo East in Baltimore, MD. The soy-based jerky will be available in a Cracked Pepper & Herb flavor with new flavors in development. Kellogg’s employee Amy Shouldice pitched the idea of creating vegan jerky to the company, which agreed to support her efforts to work with a team of friends to develop the new product. “Leaf Jerky is a portable, ready-to-savor protein snacking solution that is 100-percent vegan and plant-based,” Leaf Jerky creator Amy Shouldice told VegNews. “I wanted to create a vegan brand and product that was delicious enough to share with my meat-eating family and friends, but also provides good for you, good for the earth benefits.” The product will launch in select test markets later this year and expand broader distribution in 2020.
