This week, Purezza—the United Kingdom’s first vegan pizzeria—reopened as a much larger restaurant in the Camden district of London. The expansion, which is triple in size of the previous space, means Purezza is now one of the largest vegan restaurants in the UK. The new space features a sheltered garden area with live plants along the walls and a large extended bar where diners can enjoy a variety of drinks and cocktails. Purezza reused furniture from its previous space as well as discarded items from other restaurants—reupholstering furniture with vegan leathers and inner foam made from recycled plastic bottles—as well as recycled and reclaimed mirrors and lighting. Purezza is also using the flooring from its previous restaurant for seating booths and doors from an old chapel. “Our flagship London restaurant has been struggling to keep up with demand throughout 2019,” Tim Barclay, co-founder and co-owner of Purezza, said. “The single biggest complaint we receive is that it’s almost impossible to get a table most nights. It’s a good problem to have, but providing exceptional customer experiences is one of our core tenets at Purezza, and by tripling the size of our Camden restaurant we’ll be able to meet the demand.” Last year, Purezza was the first vegan pizzeria to score an award during the World Pizza Championship in Parma, Italy.
