Madison Square Garden Goes Vegan for Morrissey Show

Singer says venues have “a moral duty” to not serve animal products.

On June 27, there will be no animal products served at Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden. Why? Morrissey is performing, and the rock star requires all arenas he plays to nix meat and dairy. So on that night, concession stands in the 18,200-seat stadium will serve only vegan food. In April, the former Smiths frontman penned an open letter to Al Gore castigating the vegan environmentalist for selling animal products at the upcoming six-city Live Earth concert. According to Morrissey’s missive, “Serving meat and dairy products at an event to combat climate change is like selling pistols at a gun control rally.”
