Approximately 864,000 pounds of meat has been recalled from a California meat processing plant, according to a release issued yesterday by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS). FSIS personnel initially spotted the potential contamination during a routine Food Safety Assessment, which led to the current investigation and recall. All of the products suspected of E. coli contamination were beef products produced from January 5 to January 15, and were distributed to grocery stores, restaurants, and hotels across California. So far, there have been no cases of food-borne illness related to the recall reported in the FSIS.
