May 4: International Respect for Chickens Day

International Respect for Chickens Day was started by the animal-rights organization United Poultry Concerns eight years ago as a day “to celebrate chickens throughout the world.” While the project dubbed May 4 as the official day of celebration, the month of May, according to the group, is also International Respect for Chickens Month. UPC encourages folks to take action on May 4 to protect chickens; it suggests activities such as leafleting about animal abuse in factory farms, hosting events to educate people on the terrible living conditions at poultry facilities, and promoting the ways that veganism can help chickens.
