Wisconsin-based barbecue chain Famous Dave’s announced that it is working with vegan brand Beyond Meat to develop new menu items such as barbecue sliders, tacos, and bowls for its meat-heavy menu. Currently, Famous Dave’s menu—which consists primarily of ribs, pulled pork, beef burgers, and barbecued meats—does not feature a plant-based protein option and even its side salad includes bacon, eggs, and cheddar cheese. “We’ve been busy in the test kitchen experimenting with plant-based meat options, working to find solutions in line with the quality our Famous Dave’s guests have come to expect and we are extremely happy with the quality of Beyond Meat,” Sylvia Matzke-Hill, Culinary Director of Famous Dave’s, said. “It’s important that the new items fit in perfectly with the rest of our award-winning and fan favorites and we believe that the new options will do just that.” The chain—which operates 136 locations in 33 states and three countries—will add the new Beyond Meat menu items to five locations (four in Colorado and one in Minneapolis, MN) in mid-August with the intent to expand the options nationwide this fall.
