Musician Shaffer Chimere Smith (professionally known as “Ne-Yo”) credits his plant-based diet for helping him lose 30 pounds. “I am loving it. I genuinely am,” Smith told US Magazine about veganism. “It’s been about two years.” Smith transitioned to a plant-based diet in 2017 after learning about the detrimental health effects of consuming animal products and how the medical industry profits from diet-induced disease.“ Initially, I watched the documentary What The Health, and to put it frankly, it pissed me off. It really did,” Smith said. “I was like, let me get this straight: The person giving you the disease and the person fighting the disease are in bed together? To hell with y’all.” In addition to dramatic weight loss, Smith credits his plant-based diet with helping him overcome chronic tendonitis. “A friend told me a plant-based diet could reverse the effects of heart disease [and] cancer,” Smith said. “I had tendonitis in both my knees—two weeks, brand new knees, like it never happened. I kid you not! I love it.”
