Tomorrow, The Ellen DeGeneres Show will reveal a new ad by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) starring television actress, Pamela Anderson. In the Alfred Hithcock-inspired ad (which was photographed by David LaChapelle), Anderson recreates the famous shower scene from the movie, Psycho, and makes the claim that going vegan has a greater environmental impact than taking shorter showers. According to the actress, “Producing one pound of beef uses about as much water as six months of showers.” The campaign comes a month after California Governor Jerry Brown issued a controversial executive order calling for reduced in-home water usage by 25 percent, while refusing to implement restrictions on water used by animal agriculture. Meat production uses a whopping 55 percent of the country’s water supply and is the major culprit in California’s drought crisis.
