According to new research out of the University of South Carolina, a vegan diet resulted in the most weight loss for study participants. Conducted by the Arnold School of Public Health over a six-month period, volunteers were randomly assigned a diet—everything from an omnivorous regime where they could eat anything to pesco-vegetarian, vegetarian, and vegan. Participants following the plant-based diet lost an average of 16.5 pounds and received nutrition education, healthy recipes, and group support throughout the trial period.
