Vegan diner Mimi & Jones recently opened in Montreal, Canada with a menu full of comfort-food classics. Local entrepreneur MJ Guertin opened the diner, which is named after his two dogs. Inspired by Guertin’s love of Los Angeles, the menu features burgers filled with a homemade vegan patty, tofu-based nuggets, ravioli stuffed with “faux” ricotta, Caesar salad, a selection of cocktails, and three flavors of milkshakes: cheesecake, chocolate, and caramel. “Nothing [is] complicated, [I serve] only what I like to eat and what I cook at home,” Guertin told Tastet. In June, Montreal welcomed Le Bowhead Pub—the city’s first all-vegan pub—where animal-free drinks are served alongside bites such as Beyond Meat burgers in various preparations, popcorn chicken (made with shiitake mushrooms), ANML fries (topped with vegan beef grounds, cheese, and special sauce), and Fritos pies (served with guacamole).
