Feature-length documentary Diet Fictionwhich aims to uncover the misleading information behind diet culture—is set to launch on January 1, 2019. Created by Michal Siewierski, the award-winning filmmaker of Netflix documentary Food Choices, the film delves into issues of fad diets, food addiction, the obesity epidemic, and diet-industry marketing. Diet Fiction shares science-based evidence behind how the whole food, plant-based diet could lead to long-term, sustainable weight loss and improved health. The film features 33 experts in weight loss, health, and plant-based nutrition, including Neal Barnard, MD, president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM); Michael Greger, MD, author of How Not To Die; Rich Roll, vegan endurance athlete and author of Finding Ultra; and Julieanna Hever, a plant-based dietician and author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition and The Vegiterranean Diet. “The diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry that happens to be extremely misleading, overwhelmingly contradictory, and blatantly wrong, leaving millions of people desperate, frustrated, and stuck in a state of health purgatory,” Hever told VegNews. “However, the most important message is that you are not broken. It is always the food. In this brand new extraordinary documentary, current research is highlighted, [the diet] industry is challenged, and the fiction is exposed. A whole food, plant-based diet is unquestionably the single best choice for sustainable weight loss and long-term optimal health.”
