NFL Player Prepares for Olympics with Vegan Cheesecake
Rare two-sport athlete Marquise Goodwin goes vegan in hopes of pulling off gold medal long jump.

Sports Illustrated recently spotlighted Olympian and Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin’s journey toward his second attempt at a gold medal in the long jump event at the upcoming summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Staff writer Emily Kaplan caught up with Goodwin and wife Morgan at the supermarket, where the rare two-sport athlete revealed he was shopping for ingredients for a vegan dessert after consuming vegan nachos for dinner. “We’re going to make vegan cheesecake!” Goodwin exclaimed before inquiring where he could find pitted dates. Goodwin has played professional football since 2013 and competed in the 2012 London Olympics, but failed to win a medal. This time, the 25-year-old is removing animal-based products from his diet—as have many fellow elite athletes such as David Carter, Tyrann Mathieu, and Griff Whalen—to give him a better shot at the Olympic gold medal this summer.
