In an in-depth feature, Vice magazine recently explored the life of Pamela Anderson, an iconic actress with a passion for animal activism. The story revealed several interesting facets of Anderson’s life, namely how she used her fame to bring attention to animal-rights issues. In a rarely seen letter that she penned to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) during her Baywatch heyday, Anderson stated, “I’m in a TV show called Baywatch and the press is obsessed with my personal life. I’d really like to divert some of the attention to things more important than my boobs or my boyfriends,” adding that, “I’ve been an animal lover and a PETA member since I was a kid, sending in rolled up quarters, and I’ve always wanted to get more involved. Please use me.” Since that time, Anderson has made a name for herself in animal-advocacy circles by starring in various advertising campaigns against animal consumption, lending her fame to promote the ban of foie gras in France, and launching two vegan shoe lines. Currently, Anderson is starring in a new film entitled Connected, in which she portrays a lonely fitness instructor and is shown in many scenes without makeup, a departure from her past roles.
