Pie Five Pizza Brings More Vegan Options to Kansas

Dallas-based Pie Five Pizza will open its 10th Kansas location on Friday in Lawrence, near the University of Kansas. The chain offers customizable pies made with fresh vegetable toppings, homemade crusts, and vegan cheese. Restaurant industry veteran and former Applebee’s CEO Dave Goebel—along with his two sons and daughter—signed a franchise agreement in 2013 to open at least 18–20 restaurants in the Kansas City area. Due to popular demand, the pizza chain added Daiya to its menu last month at its 87 locations. “We were initially drawn to the fast-casual pizza concept, and in particular to the Pie Five brand, because of the ability to customize pizzas for each guests’ needs,” the family said. On opening day, residents are invited to create their own personal pies and enter to win prizes such as Pie Five gift cards and Kansas City Royals tickets.
